I first travelled to America in 1987 to live with my aunt and spend a semester at Montclair State College in New Jersey. Here’s 1980s me (with 80s hair). As one of very few people I cycled to school—a hilly 8 km stretch.
I remember trying to get into a creative writing class but they were all booked up. Sometimes I wonder what would have happened if I had succeeded. Would I have stayed and begun my writing journey as a teenager, instead of taking a path that included studying economics and 16 years in a corporate job, before I took my writing hobby seriously?
Who knows… Life is strange and full of sliding doors. Some (especially bookish doors) might even lead into Faerie…
